Benthic Sediment Chemistry Analysis-Ready Data (NCEA)

The Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Benthic Sediment Chemistry network provides evidence on chemicals in estuarine and coastal sediments. This dataset contains the results of chemical analyses of sediment samples collected from English waters between 01 April 2023 to 31 March 2025. Supporting data, such as sampling locations and determinands analysed, are available within the dataset. When fully implemented, the NCEA Benthic Sediment Chemistry network will provide evidence on the chemical status of benthic sediments in English waters. This will enable the assessment of ongoing changes and impacts of chemical pressures on our water environment, informing smarter, more sustainable water management.

The NCEA Benthic Sediment Chemistry network is a project supported by the UK Government through Defra's NCEA programme. The NCEA is Defra's largest research and development (R&D) programme. It will produce a baseline of our natural assets by 2029; enabling a natural capital approach to policy and decision-making.
